Kenny Riddle wins 2007 'AMRA Nationals' at WVMS
- Louie Krushansky earns '07 Road Warrior Tour point title-
The West Virginia Motor Speedway again hosted the traditional finale of the
AMRA's Road Warrior Tour season, as the 'AMRA Nationals' headlined the
opening night of 'RaceFest 07' at the 5/8 mile speedplant.
With just 4 points separating point leader Jess Hartman from second place
Louie Krushansky, and a $2,000.00 payday awaiting the winner of the 30 lap
main, the stage was set for a thrilling finale.
2003 & '04 Road Warrior Tour point champion Dave Groves had earlier in the
evening set a new track record for the modified division, blistering the
well groomed monstrous oval with a lap of 21.99 seconds, to the tune of a
lap average speed of 102 m.p.h.
A former 'AMRA Nationals' winner, Groves was the odds-on favorite to win the
main event after dominating his heat race.
When the green dropped on the 24 car starting field, Groves immediately took
charge, with J.P. Roberts falling into the leaders tire tracks.
6th starting Kevin Morehouse eased between Mark Dickson and Dave Defibaugh
to move to third as the leaders hit the backstretch for the first time.
Early cautions kept the field close, but eliminated the title hopes of some,
as Jess Hartman suffered a blown motor, and Jeremy Berwanger fell victim to
mechanical gremlins.
These same cautions were aiding the charge of Louie Krushansky, Mike Wilson
and Kenny Riddle, as these 3 drivers made their way into the feature via the
b-mains.
Groves would sprint out to a secure lead upon each restart, with Roberts
safely in 2nd, followed by Morehouse. Dickson, Defibaugh and Corey Conley
were duking it out for 4th, and the racing behind these drivers was
absolutely fantastic, with 3 wide runs thoughout the field.
Groves had the pay window in sight, when his Tri Valley Equipment GRS # T3
grenaded the right rear tire and pulled to the infield.
J.P. Roberts inherited the lead on lap 20, and the classic 'underdog' story
of the season was in the making, as the Gallipolis driver pulled away to a
commanding lead.
The clock chimed midnight on Roberts hopes for an upset victory when his
brakes failed on lap 25.
Roberts slapped the wall in turn 3, as Morehouse blasted by to take his
first lead of the event.
Riddle had broken free of a wild 3 car battle between he, Pat Gillian and
Wilson, bypassed Dickson, and was now poised to take a run at new race
leader Morehouse.
A lap 27 caution for Vic Vandergrift allowed Riddle a final opportunity to
find a way past the determined Morehouse.
When the green waved Morehouse led Riddle, Dickson, Gillian and Wilson into
turn one. Riddle drove deep into the high side of turn 3, gave his right
rear Hoosier tire a big bite of the track's cushion, and pulled even with
Morehouse as the duo entered the frontstretch.
Parkersburg, WV's Riddle then showed why WVMS is his favorite track, as he
sped away to take an impressive win in his 'Allman's Sweep-a-lot/ Poske's/
Fastenal' sponsored self-built 'Riddler' chassis.
"We lost the brakes in qualifying, and that killed our lap. We had to run
the b-main to make the feature, so the crew really worked hard to get us
this win. I appreciate the crew's work, my sponsors help and my wife's
support. This feels great!" Riddle stated after the win.
Hanover, Ohio native Morehouse's best run ever at WVMS garnered a well
earned runner-up finish in his 'Morehouse Logging" Thrown'Dirt # 28, and
Mike Wilson's last turn, gutsy outside pass of Dickson earned the
Sistersville, WV driver the final podium position in his unsponsored
Lightning Chassis # 20.
Defending RWT champion Mark Dickson's fourth place finish was his career
best at WVMS, and secured a 3rd place points finish for his 'P&N
Motorsports' # 0, while Louie Krushansky's fifth place finish earned the
'Dalton Brothers Lumber/ Denzle Turner Excavating' # 23 team their second
RWT point title in the last 3 years.
6th - 10th were Doug Henry, Pat Gillian, Anthony Huber, Vic Vandergrift and
Dusty Boley.
Dave Groves earned the 'Hassy Chassis Fast Qualifier' title with his record
setting lap, also winning the opening qualifying heat race. Roberts,
Dickson, Defibaugh and Paul Wilmoth Jr. also scored heat wins, with Riddle
and Shawn Davis earning B-main wins.

August 24, 2007: Chris Stotts wins 'ABC Manufacturing 30' Road Warrior Tour event at Skyline
Speedway
Shade, Ohio's Chris Stotts won the action-packed 'ABC Manufacturing 30' at
the Skyline Speedway.
Heat 3 winner Jeff Wood drew the pole position on the winner's redraw,
leading the 24 car field to the green flag.
He and Stotts grappled for the lead, while Mark Dickson, Louie Krushansky
and Jason Brookover battled for third.
Stotts wrestled the lead away at the end of the opening lap, then begin to
build a modest lead before a lap 5 caution bunched the field.
Wood immediately challenged for the lead upon the restart, and the tussle
for positions 3 - 8 heated up.
Jeremy Berwanger and Kenny Johnson were working their way from deep in the
field, and Dave Groves was making steady progress into the top 5 after
falling back early.
Groves would bring out the races 3rd and final caution on lap 19 when he
made hard contact with the backstretch wall.
The final 11 laps saw Wood nose under leader Stotts repeatedly, getting
terrific runs off turn 4, but could never complete the pass.
Stotts wheeled the Norton owned 'Carthage Auto Parts' # E1 under the
checkered flag with a scant car length advantage, earning his first Road
Warrior Tour victory of the season.
Wood's 'Don Wood Automotive' # 34 had his best AMRA finish of the season
with his second place finish, and defending RWT champion Mark Dickson scored
a hard earned third in his 'P&N Trucking' # 0.
Louie Krushansky survived a wild finish to finish 4th ahead of Kevin
Morehouse.

July 3, 2007: Jeremy Berwanger wins Road Warrior
Tour's 'Firecracker 30' at I-77
Motorsports Park
A packed house jammed the 'I-77 Motorsports
Complex' to celebrate the
nation's independence, and were rewarded with the ground pounding
action of
the AMRA's finest, as the Road Warrior Tour made it's final stop of
the '07
season at the Fairplain, WV oval.
It took 4 qualifying heats, a C and B main to set the 24 car A main
starting
field for what would be a crowd pleasing 30 lap finale.
Kenny Johnson blasted off his pole starting position, with fellow
front row
starter Mark Dickson in hot pursuit. The lead duo built a small advantage
before the race's first caution fell for an Ed Eschmann/ Doug Hall
tangle
that sent both pitside.
On the restart, Berwanger was making his presence known, methodically
working from his 5th starting position to the bumper of race leader
Johnson.
Johnson looped his car, handing the lead to Berwanger near the races
midpoint.
Some outstanding drives captured the fans attention, as Chris Fordyce
and
Doug Henry were marching toward the front after transfering from the
B-main,
and Anthony Slusher was making progess from his 22nd starting position.
Berwanger had Andy Bond, Louie Krushansky and Tim Riley to contend
with,
when former 'AMRA Rookie of the Year' Robert 'Booger' Garnes starting
his
charge by attacking the tracks cushion.
Garnes blasted around the extreme high line, setting his sights on
race
leader Berwanger when the final caution waved on lap 28.
The final 2 laps had the fans on their feet, as all eyes were fixed
on the
lead battle.
Berwanger and Garnes circled the track as one, with Garnes gaining
a slight
final lap advantage as he charged deep into turn 3. Berwanger maintained
his
low line, making up the ground as the circled turn 4 the final time.
The final drag race to the checkered flag made this race a classic,
as
Berwanger's ' 'Fast Traxx Racing Promotions/Keith Taulbee Chiropractic/
Four
Season's Appliance Repair/ Lightning Chassis #44J' picked up his second
Road
Warrior Tour win of the year, vaulting him back into a heated points
battle.

ever in
Road Warrior Tour competition, with Doug Henry's 'RAD Grafix/ B&W
Pharmacy/
M&M Motorsports/ Pierce Chassis #1a' coming from 18th to round
out the top
3, who received trophies from Carthage Auto Parts for their efforts.
Andy Bond and current RWT points leader Louie Krushansky rounded out
the top
5.
6 - 10th were Tim Riley, Chris Fordyce, Anthony Slusher, Mark Dickson
and
Jeremy Blake.
Kenny Johnson was the fast qualifier, as he, Mark Dickson, Jeremy
Blake and
Andy Bond won qualifying heats. Rodney Keefer won the C-main, with
Chris
Fordyce taking honors in the B-main.

June 30, 2007: Paul Wilmoth Jr. wins AMRA Road
Warrior Tour's 'Dickson Classic'
One of the season's largest crowds saw Jess
Hartman outduel fellow front row
starter Thomas Sigler for the right to lead lap one Tyler County Speedway's
4th annual 'Dickson Classic' for the AMRA Road Warrior Tour modifieds.
Looking to add his name to the prestigious list of winner's, Hartman
attacked the multi-grooved quarter mile around the high line with
Sigler
riding just off his spoiler 1 groove lower, and Dave Defibaugh applying
heavy pressure in a bid to take second.
Defibaugh made contact with Sigler on lap 6, and the resultant caution
sent
Defibaugh to the tail of the 24 car field.
When racing resumed, Wilmoth began his ascent from his 5th starting
position. Initially falling back, Wilmoth searched for a line free
of the
heavy traffic, and worked the low line charging to 3rd by the race's
midpoint.
The lead trio seperated themselves from the intense battle for positions
4 -
10 that saw a host of position changes during the 30 lap event.
Wilmoth found an opening on lap 23, scooting under Sigler for 2nd,
and
immediately applied pressure to leader Hartman.
With time and laps quickly running out, Wilmoth continuously showed
the nose
of his car to Hartman, as the lead trio could literally "be covered
by a
blanket".
The winning pass came with just 4 laps remaining, as Wilmoth found
a narrow
opening in turn 4, then turned back Hartman's attempts to regain the
lead
the final circuits.
In a career full of victories, this was "the Gambler's"
first ever AMRA Road
Warrior Tour win, as his "All Our Best Groomers/ Hassy Hounds"
sponsored #
RJ1 scored it's 2nd feature win of the season at 'the Bullring'.
"Rick (Strickler) and Jerry (Hasleu) have been wanting me to
drive for them
for a while. They built this car from the ground up. I thought we
may have
went a bit hard on tires, but they came in when we needed them most.
Jess
(Hartman) was fast, and we raced hard and clean. I hope the fans enjoyed
the show." Wilmoth said after exiting his winning mount.
Hartman's "Zeller & Zeller Law Firm/ IMOD Construction"
Pierce Chassis # 5
finished 2nd, closing Road Warrior Tour point leader Louie Krushansky's
advantage to single digits.
Sigler's 'Poske's Performance Parts/ NAPA" Huff Chassis # 4s's
third place
finish was his best ever in Road Warrior Tour competition, and he,
along
with Wilmoth & Hartman received trophies courtesy of Carthage
Auto Parts.
Mike "Bird" Wilson came from 7th to finish 4th, with defending
track
champion JR Nolan making the evenings most impressive drive, finishing
5th
after heat race woes relegated him to the 18th starting position.
Mark Dickson, Dale Keplinger, Gerald Deitch, Darren Glover and Tim
Riley
rounded out the top 10.
results:

May 27, 2007: Dave Groves takes home $2000 win
in Tyler County Speedway's
'Battle of the Bullring'

Tyler County Speedway's hosted a near capacity crowd, fully complemented
by
a record number 188 competitors for it's annual Memorial weekend special,
the 'Battle of the Bullring'.
The AMRA Road Warrior Tour modifieds made their first of two '07 visits
to "the Bullring".
4 qualifying heat races and a B-main were required to set the 24 car
starting field.
2 time past RWT champion Dave Groves muscled past fellow front row
starter
Dave Defibaugh to take the initial race lead of the 30 lap main.
Defibaugh brought out the 1st of only 3 cautions on lap 5 when he
looped his
car, avoiding contact in an effort to take the lead.
The restart saw current RWT point leader Louie Krushansky, Paul Wilmoth
Jr,
JR Nolan and Brian Propst fall in line behind Groves.
Wilmoth moved past Krushansky on lap 12, and began to chip away at
Groves' modest lead.
Some outstanding action was going on throughout the field, as b-main
winner
Donnie Nething was making a fine drive through the field on his way
to a top
10 finish, and Defibaugh was muscling his way pack to the front.
The final caution of the event for Jeremy Berwanger's stalled car
tightened
the field for a 6 lap dash to the pay window.
Groves ran mid track, Wilmoth went to the cushion, and the fans came
to
their feet as the lead duo went wheel to wheel for the lead.
With 23 of the original starters still on track the race leaders caught
the
back of the field coming to the white flag. Groves was able to squeeze
past
Mike Shell, simultaneously shutting down Wilmoths run on the high
side.
This proved to be the races winning move, as Groves wheeled the 'Tri-Valley
Equipment/ Melvin's Transmission/ GRS Chassis # T3 to a $2000.00 pay
day.
Wilmoth brought the 'Haseleu's Transmissions/ H-K Enterprise/ Hassy
Hound #
RJ1' close behind, with defending AMRA track champion JR Nolan bringing
the
'Oak Hills Automotive/ BSB Mfg./ GRS Chassis # 13' home in third.
Krushansky and Propst rounded out the top 5. 6 - 10 were Andy Bond,
17th
starting Donnie Nething, Defibaugh, Andre Layfield and Mike Basich.
Groves was the Hassy Chassis fast qualifier. Heats winners were Groves,
Defibaugh, Wilmoth and Krushansky, while Nething scored the B-main
win.

May 26, 2007: Krushansky wins 'I-77 Motorsports
Park' Road Warrior Tour Main
---Reclaims points lead with 2nd RWT feature win of the season---
Louie Krushansky took a major step in reclaiming the AMRA Road Warrior
Tour
title, by winning his 2nd RWT main of the young season, and his 2nd
in as
many attempts at the I-77 Motorsports Park at Fairplain, WV.
The 'Cedar Lakes 30' was the 3rd race in the '07 RWT schedule, with
the 24
car starting A-main field being pared down through 4 qualifying heats
and a
B-main.
After a pair of lap 1 cautions, the field settled into some serious
action,
as Krushansky and fellow front row starter Jeremy Berwanger once again
providing the excitement at the front.
Krushansky took the early lead before Berwanger blasted around the
top of
the multi-grooved oval to take control.
Berwanger quickly built a 8 car length lead, but just as quickly was
reeled
back in by Krushansky, who brought Mike WIlson, Jess Hartman, Dave
Defibaugh
and Andy Bond with him.
Krushansky re-took the lead near the races mid-point, but once again
relinquished the spot to Berwanger on lap 17.
A pair of cautions slowed the action, with the battle for the lead
holding
the near capacity crowd's attention.
The torrid pace found racers changing grooves, as every bit of racing
surface was being contested throughout the field.
The event's results turned on a lap 22 caution that saw Berwanger
loop the
car entering the frontstretch, while Mike Wilson would become a victim
of
circumstances, being gathered up by a spinning Jeff Deyton.
Wilson's badly damaged mount would retire immediately, while Berwanger
would
suffer a failed differential on lap 28, setting up a 2 lap sprint
to the
checkered flag.
With his cushion gone, Krushansky now had Bond, Hartman, Robbie Evans
and
Mark Dickson in tow.
Krushansky was flawless in hitting his marks, but Bond's high line
move
going into the final turn brought the fans to their feet.
With the checkered flag waving, Bond tried the cross over move coming
off
turn 4, but could get no closer than the door of Krushansky's 'Denzle
Turner
Excavating/ Dalton Brothers Lumber/ Bulldog Logging/ Key Contracting/
GRS
Chassis #23'.
Krushansky's win vaults the Morgantown, WV driver back into the lead
of the
AMRA Road Warrior Tour point standings.
Bond's 'Turner's One Stop/ Drayer Transport/ Twin Oaks Refrigeration
#A10'
would finish a scant 1/2 car length off the winner's pace, with the
'Harper's Auto Body/ Zeller & Zeller Law Firm/ FBT Construction
#5' of Jess
Hartman completing the top 3.
Robbie Evans earned the hard charger honor, as the former I-77 track
champion came from the 17th starting position to finish 4th, and 14th
starting Mark Dickson charged to a 5th place finish.
6th through 10th were Chris Fordyce, Tim Riley, Ed Eschmann, Dave
Defibaugh
and Doug Henry.

May 19, 2007: Jeremy Berwanger wins Road Warrior
Tour's 'Eye Opener 30' at K-C Raceway

- First ever Road Warrior Tour victory also vaults Berwanger to the
top of
RWT point standings -
K-C Raceway hosted the AMRA's Road Warrior Tour for the 1st of the
series
two stops at the high banked 3/8 mile speed palace.
Open wheel modified racers from 3 states provided the action, as 3
qualifying heats and a b-main determined the 24 car starting field.
The start of the 30 lap feature saw the evenings fast qualifier &
opening
heat winner Dave Defibaugh blast off his pole position to take the
lead.
The first of only 3 cautions to slow the event waved on lap 2, and
on the
restart the top 5 were Defibaugh, followed by Jeremy Berwanger, Ed
Eschmann,
Jess Hartman & Mark Dickson.
Berwanger immediately pressured Defibaugh for the race lead, taking
the
point on lap 4.
Hartman & Dickson worked their way past a fading Eschmann, and
the top 4
cars made an early race breakaway.
Berwanger's rimriding was allowing the Murray City, Ohio ace to stretch
his
advantage, as the multi-grooved surface saw drivers working every
line
imaginable.
Louie Krushansky found the bottom lane open, and by the races 2nd
caution on
lap 16 had worked his way into fifth.
On the restart, Berwanger once again was opening up a lead, with Krushansky
continuing his charge to the front.
A final lap 24 single car caution set the stage for a thrilling finish.
With the scenario identical to the RWT season opener, this time it
would be
Berwanger leading Krushansky to the race's final restart.
Berwanger went back to his familiar high line, but for the first time
was
unable to open up the advantage that he had enjoyed since the race's
early
laps.
Hartman powered around the high side of Defibaugh, and immediately
challenged the lead duo.
A now struggling Berwanger could see Krushansky out his drivers window,
and
feel the heat from Hartman's radiator on the back of his neck as the
white
flag waved.
The lead trio approached the back of the field as they screamed up
the
backstretch, and like in the Road Warrior Tour opener, their final
decision
would be critical.
Berwanger stayed committed to his high lane, while Krushansky would
stick
with his low line through the final set of turns.
Berwanger's lane opened, while Krushansky's closed.
The checkered flag waved for Berwanger's 'Fast Traxx Racing Promotions/
Keith Taulbee Chiropractic/ Four Season's Appliance Repair/ Lightning
Chassis #44J', earning the Roger Berwanger owned team it's first ever
RWT
win, the RWT points lead, and the 2nd AMRA feature win in as many
nights.
The post race on-track trophy presentation indicated the source of
Berwanger's late race struggles, as the right rear tire had gone completely
flat by the time the car exited the scales.
Jess Hartman's strong run came up just short, as the Zanesville, Ohio
driver's 'Zeller & Zeller Law Firm/ T & B Construction/ Harpers
Auto Body/
IMOD Construction/ Pierce Chassis #5 finished less than a car length
away
from a win.
Krushansky earned the races hard charger honor, as the 'Denzle Turner
Excavating/ Dalton Brothers Lumber/ Bulldog Logging/ Key Contracting/
GRS
Chassis #23 came from 15th starting position to a well earned 3rd
place
finish.
The lead trio were presented trophies courtesy of Carthage Auto Parts
of
Cincinnatti, Ohio.
Dave Defibaugh was fourth, with Jeff Houser musculing his way into
5th from
his 16th starting position.
Mark Dickson, Mike Long Tim Riley, Jamie Adams & Jeremy Rayburn
completed
the top 10, as only 2 of the races 24 starters failed to finish the
3rd
annual "Eye Opener 30".

May 12, 2007: Krushansky wins Road Warrior Tour
opener at I-77 Motorsports Park

Louie Krushansky won a thrilling season opener for the AMRA Road Warrior
Tour with a victory in the 'Spring Fling 30' at the I-77 Motorsports
Park at
Fairplain, WV.
4 qualifying heat races and a b-main set the 24 car starting field
field for
what would prove to be barn burner 30 lap main event.
Krushansky and fellow front row starter Jeremy Berwanger swapped the
lead
position multiple times in a race that went caution free from lap
2 until
lap 26.
Berwanger initially wrestled the lead away after 3 laps of side by
side
racing, until Krushansky found an opening on lap 12 to take the point.
The long green flag run, and extremely light attrition found the leaders
in
lapped traffic by the races midpoint.
Krushansky's slim advantage melted when the leader became bogged down
working past the backmarkers, and Berwanger brought Dave Defibaugh
and Tim
Riley with him as it quickly became a 4 car lead pack.
While the lead quartet slugged it out in tight formation, every position
was
being contested as side by side racing was going on all through the
field.
Berwanger made it 3 wide working lapped traffic and brought the capacity
crowd to it's feet as he reclaimed the lead with a bold move on lap
19.
Heavy lapped traffic made the lead battle a high stakes chess match,
with
every decision a crucial one for the front runners.
Krushansky found a opening in the center groove, and once again put
the
field in his rear view mirror on lap 25.
This proved to be the winning pass for the Morgantown, WV native,
as the lap
26 caution for a single car spin slowed the action, allowing the leaders
a
clear track for the final 4 lap dash to the pay window.
The veteran Krushansky never faltered, bringing the 'Denzle Turner
Excavating/ Dalton Brothers Lumber/ Key Contracting/ Bulldog Logging/
GRS
Chassis/ Performance Engineering powered #23' across the finish line
first.
After the race Krushansky stated: "I found a little something
in 3 & 4, but
I didn't want to use it too early. Lapped traffic kept things tight.
We had
to work hard for this win".
Berwanger kept the pressure on to the last, as his 'Keith Taulbee
Chiropractic/ Four Seasons Appliance Repair/ Lightning Chassis #44J'
was a
close 2nd, and Dave Defibaugh's 'Chris Polino Contracting/ Hardee's
Restaurants/ Lightning Chassis # 77' completed the podium position
finishers, with the trio receiving trophies from 'Carthage Auto Parts'
for
their efforts.
Tim Riley turned in his finest effort in RWT competition with a strong
4th
place finish, and the races hard charger honors went to Ed Eschmann,
who
clawed his way to 5th from his 11th starting position.
6th through tenth were Jess Hartman, Robbie Evans, Jeremy Blake, Mark
Dickson and Robert Garnes.
Next stop for the AMRA Road Warrior Tour will be Saturday May 19th
at Jim
Niers 'K-C Raceway.
The following weekend will present a Mountain State double header,
with RWT
racing action again at the I-77 Motorsports Park on Saturday the 26th,
with
a Sunday night special the following evening at the Tyler County Speedway.
Both of these events will include larger purse structures, with the
Tyler
County event being a gold purse plus.
